Congressional Blunder May Nullify Override of Farm Bill Veto Print E-mail

Shortly after President Bush vetoed the farm bill sent to him by Congress, the House overwhelmingly voted to override the veto. The Senate was expected to second the override which would nullify the President's veto.
However, before that could happen, a stunning discovery was made. The congress omitted 34 pages from the bill that was sent to the President which means that the bill Bush vetoed was not the same one that the Congress had passed.
The mistake has left lawmakers scrambling to correct the situation. The Congress will likely have to vote again on the bill and resend it to the President. The current farm bill is set to expire Friday which is probably not enough time to pass a "new" one.
Scott Stanzel, a spokesman for the White House, took the opportunity to poke fun at Congress stating there was no precedent for "a congressional blunder of this magnitude" and that they should now have time to correct the "bloated" bill.

Obama Leads Clinton By 13 on May 19 Oregon Primary Poll; Clinton Up 31 in Kentucky Print E-mail
2008 Oregon Primary
Written by Guillermo Brown
Monday, May 19, 2008

Barack Obama marched ahead to a 13 point lead over Hillary Clinton in the Oregon primary election according to the latest poll conducted over the weekend. Obama and Clinton evenly split the women vote. However, with the majority of Oregon men siding with the Illinois Senator, Obama is favored to win the Beaver State.

Oregon uses a drop-off or mail-in ballot voting system. 29% of registered voters have already cast their ballot as of May 15.

In Kentucky, polling shows Hillary Clinton ahead, holding a substantial 31 point margin. Barack Obama is avoiding the Bluegrass State, leaving Clinton alone to campaign without his presence. The final election day results for both Oregon and Kentucky will be Tuesday May 20, 2008.

Jon Kyl on Fox News Sunday: Direct Talks With Iran May Create A 'Dispirited Situation' Print E-mail

Sunday Morning Mashup of FOX NEWS SUNDAY:
JON KYL
May 18, 2008

Jon Kyl views direct talks with Iran as counter-productive...

"Remember that Nixon went to China to drive a wedge between China and Russia, to gain leverage in that three country relationship. And with respect to Iran, I think Chris is right, that there are a lot of folks in Iran who are actually very friendly toward the United States. The last thing you want to do is to create a dispirited situation for them by granting the prestige of the Presidency to sitting down with the head of their country who they don't like any better than we do."

Jim Webb on Meet The Press: 'Aggressive Diplomacy' Ends Rogue Regimes Print E-mail

Sunday Morning Mashup of NBC MEET THE PRESS:
JIM WEBB
May 18, 2008

Instead of likening talks with Iran to Nazi Appeasement, Jim Webb prefers another comparison...

"President Bush were to use the right historical example, he probably should be looking at China in the 1970s, rather than the situation in Germany in the 1930s. Where we had a rogue regime with nukes, with an American war on its border, that was spouting all of this hostile rhetoric and was not a part of the international community. And by aggressive diplomacy at the same time that we kept all of our other options on the table and maintained all of our other alliances, we were able to, arguably, bring China into the international community."
