US Airstrike Leaves 11 Pakistani Soldiers Dead

According to the AP and AFP, 11 Pakistani troops were killed during a US led airstike. The attack occurred late Tuesday night as NATO forces were engaged in a battle with the Taliban along the volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The airstrike was conducted using unmanned drone an no coalition troops crossed the border into Pakistan.

A Pakistani Army spokesperson condemned the attack and called it "cowardly". The spokesperson also said that the attack undermined the cooperative efforts against the war on terror.

A Pentagon official said the airstrike was launched under rules that allow the coalition forces to cross over the border if they are in pursuit of the enemy. The coalition also said that they had issued a warning to the Pakistani Army that the strike was coming.

Coalition forces had also killed 15 Taliban militants during the fighting.

Presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Senator John McCain appeared on the Today Show this morning with Matt Lauer. Senator McCain addressed the current economic situation and what he would do to try to alleviate high food and gas prices. He discussed how his ideas and tax policies differ from the presumptive Democratic Presidential Nominee Senator Barack Obama. The Arizona Senator also advocated for a continuance of the Iraq War policy as he sees that the surge is working and American casualties are low.

Democrats in Congress Will Use Remaining Session to Highlight Obama's Agenda

According to the AP, the Democrats in Congress will use the time remaining in their session to draft legislation that will highlight the political agenda of their Presidential nominee, Barack Obama.

'No Child Left Behind' Failure: Projected 29.4% High School Dropout Rate

Many Children Left Behind

1.23 million, which is 29.4% of the total number of 2004 9th Grade public school students, are projected to not graduate in 2008, according to a study conducted by the Editorial Projects in Education Research Center (EPERC).

This report may be evidence of the poor performance of the Bush Administration's 'No Child Left Behind' policy.
