Nature abhors a Republican Print E-mail

When I was a child, back in the 70's, I remember an election day in NYC that was truly astounding. Firstly, Richard Nixon was getting himself elected and, secondly, the skies over the city opened up and it rained like I'd never seen. I recall being on a bus with a couple of friends and the water at the intersections was coming in the bus. Especially at 125th Street and Broadway, which is in a valley. I was on my way home from private school, wearing my little navy blue blazer with "Deus" on the breast pocket, nerd shoes and probably a briefcase. Yeah, I know, I had a briefcase in the eighth grade.

The next day we were required to write about the election and what we learned. I think it was for English class, at at least I hope it was. I wrote that Ihad learned that Mother Nature didn't like Republicans, especially Richard Nixon, and showed her displeasure by "pouring out her wrath beneath dark brooding skies." (Yes, I was a pompous snot of a child and I wrote like that)

Fast forward to this week: Republican convention = hurricanes. Not just one but (a possible) 3 - Gustav, Hanna and Ike! Last week, when the Democrats were making us teary-eyed with hope and promise, the weather was wonderful. Well, it did rain in Seattle, and that's typical, but not in Denver, Colorado. No one rained on Obama's parade, apparently. We did have thunder and lightening here though. Well, maybe Thor was a bit upset but he's always grumpy.

I just think Nature abhors Republicans. I thought it those years ago and I think it now. I have been a registered republican (little "r"), mostly while living in New Hampshire. Heck, I was living in Cow Hampster, I'm sure Nature didn't like me then. An openly gay, republican, member of ACT-UP who battles Holy Rollers while handing out condoms (and info) outside the High School? Fate may have had it in for me, but I think Nature was just cynically amused.

I now consider myself as "healed." I am as party-less as possible, unless booze is involved. And I am sure that republicans have to deal with a lot o' hate. Not just from me, but from Nature. I'm not drilling anywhere in the wilderness, no ma'am, not me!
