The Supreme Court ruled today that the Washington D.C. handgun ban violated the Second Amendment right to bear arms. The 5-4 decision will overturn the 32 year old law that was implemented to try to reduce violent crime in the District of Columbia, according to CNN.

In another 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled today to strike down the "millionaire's amendment" which would have allowed opponents of wealthy candidates to increase the ceiling on the amount a person can raise from individuals if their opponent makes a contribution to their own candidacy that exceeds 350,000, according to the AP.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court also lowered the amount that ExxonMobil was previously ordered to pay as compensation for the Valdez oil spill. The 5-3 decision (Justice Alito abstained from the ruling due to his ownership of ExxonMobil stock) dropped the previous amount of $2.5 billion down to $500 million, according to ABC News.

In yet another 5-4 split, the Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty was an unconstitutional punishment for someone who rapes a child, but does not kill the child, according to the Washington Post.
